The genus of Cortinarius is a large and diverse group of mushrooms that contains over one thousand species, of which some members are deadly with delayed symptoms for up to two weeks! They are generally easy to identify to genus because of the characteristic cobwebby veil (that often disappears in age) and the rusty-brown spore print. However, they are notoriously hard to identify to species. This is a classic example of the cobweb like veil that you see on the cap as it opens up.

Mushroom Identification is like....mushroom identification. There's nothing like mushroom identification. I mean, if you do mushroom identification it's not like you are a mushroom identifier or anything, it's just mushroom identification. And for those that are experts in mushroom identification, you better watch your mushroom identification because mushroom identification is not like any other identification.
